Wetlands WFS

Wetlands are the wet nature areas in the Netherlands. The Wetland Treaty was signed on February 2, 1971 in Ramsar in Iran. The Ramsar Treaty aims to protect Wetlands and associated plant and animal species. 'Wetlands' or 'wet land' is officially defined according to the Ramsar Convention as: 'Watery areas, marshes, fens, peat bogs or ponds, natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with stagnant or flowing water, fresh, brackish or saline, including sea water, the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six metres'. This also includes the riparian and coastal areas adjacent to water areas and islands or sea water areas located within these areas. There are a total of 44 wetlands in the Netherlands.
